Description

Camarones a la Diabla is a bold and spicy Mexican shrimp dish simmered in a fiery red chile-tomato sauce. It’s quick to make, packed with flavor, and perfect for spice lovers!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 3 dried guajillo chilies (stems and seeds removed)

  • 2 dried arbol chilies (for heat – adjust to taste)

  • 2 medium tomatoes, chopped

  • 2 garlic cloves

  • 1/4 small onion

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Fresh lime juice (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Sauce:
Soak guajillo and arbol chilies in hot water for 10 minutes until soft. Blend with tomatoes, garlic, onion, and a splash of soaking water until smooth.

  • Cook the Sauce:
Heat 1 tbsp oil in a skillet over medium heat. Strain the sauce into the pan. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until slightly thickened. Season with salt and pepper.

  • Cook the Shrimp:
In a separate pan, heat 1 tbsp oil. Add shrimp and cook for 2–3 minutes per side, or until just pink.

  • Combine:
Add cooked shrimp to the sauce. Toss to coat and simmer for 2 more minutes.

  • Serve:
Enjoy hot with rice, tortillas, or crusty bread. Squeeze fresh lime on top for extra zing

Notes

  • Adjust chili quantity to control spice level.

  • For extra richness, stir in a teaspoon of butter at the end.

  • This dish pairs beautifully with avocado slices or a cool crema drizzle.
