Description

Juicy, tender Salisbury steak patties smothered in rich mushroom and onion gravy make for a classic comfort meal that’s easy to prepare and satisfying to eat. Perfect with mashed potatoes or buttered noodles!


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80% lean)

  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs

  • 1/4 cup milk

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 1 egg

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced

  • 1 cup beef broth

  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 cup water


Instructions

  1. Mix Patties:
    In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, onion, egg, garlic, salt, and pepper. Form into 4 oval patties.

  2. Cook Patties:
    Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties 4–5 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside.

  3. Make Gravy:
    In the same skillet, sauté mushrooms until tender. Stir in flour and cook 1 minute. Gradually whisk in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and water. Simmer until thickened.

  4. Combine & Simmer:
    Return patties to skillet. Spoon gravy over and simmer 10 minutes until cooked through.

  5. Serve:
    Serve hot with mashed potatoes or noodles.

Notes

  • Use fresh mushrooms for best flavor, or substitute with canned if needed.

  • For extra richness, add a splash of heavy cream to the gravy.

  • Leftovers reheat well for next-day meals.

  • Add a pinch of thyme or parsley to patties for added herb flavor.
