  • Author: meryem srhir
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Inspired by Sweetgreen’s beloved bowl, this Hot Honey Chicken Bowl is a perfect balance of sweet, spicy, and savory. With juicy grilled chicken, warm grains, fresh greens, and a mouthwatering hot honey drizzle, it’s a crave-worthy meal you can make at home!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Chicken:

  • 1 lb boneless chicken thighs or breasts

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder

  • Salt & pepper to taste

For the Hot Honey:

  • 1/4 cup honey

  • 12 tsp hot sauce (adjust to taste)

  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional for extra heat)

For the Bowl:

  • 2 cups cooked brown rice or wild rice blend

  • 4 cups mixed greens (like arugula, kale, spinach)

  • 1 avocado, sliced

  • 1 cup shredded cabbage (purple or green)

  • 1/2 cup pickled onions (optional)

  • 1/4 cup crumbled goat cheese or feta

  • 1/4 cup sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds

Instructions

  1. Cook the Chicken:
Toss chicken with olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Grill or pan-sear over medium heat for 6–8 minutes per side or until fully cooked. Let rest, then slice.

  2. Make the Hot Honey:
Warm honey in a small pan or microwave. Stir in hot sauce and red pepper flakes. Set aside.

  3. Assemble the Bowls:
Start with a base of rice and greens in each bowl. Top with sliced chicken, avocado, cabbage, pickled onions, cheese, and seeds.

  4. Drizzle and Serve:
Generously drizzle hot honey over each bowl. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Try it with quinoa or farro instead of rice.

  • Make it dairy-free by skipping the cheese or using a plant-based alternative.

  • The hot honey also makes a great wing or pizza topping!

  • Meal prep tip: store components separately and assemble before serving.
